Three Morpeth Harriers were selected for the 12 strong Northumberland Boys team to compete in the
National Year 7 Cross Country Championships held at Prestwold Hall near Leicester on Saturday 24th March 2018. Ryan Davies, Joseph Hudspith and Bertie Marr made the trip south with the Northumberland team and were well rewarded for their efforts. Individually Bertie came 42nd, Ryan 76th and Joseph 118th, and the Northumberland team came away as Runners Up ahead of Cumbria but behind the champions Kent. A great day out and silver medals to bring home. In his first outing on European soil for some time, Morpeth Harrier Serod Batochir
finished 119th in the IAAF World Half Marathon in Valencia on Saturday 24th March 2018, representing Mongolia. Batochir posted a seasons best of 67m48s. Richard Sill of Morpeth Harriers bravely competed in very inclement conditions, on an entirely different continent, when he took part in the Standard Chartered Bank Marathon in the Falklands on Sunday 18th March 2018.
Posting a time of 3hrs57mins34secs, Richard finished in an excellent 16th place. Morpeth Harrier Scott Beattie, currently studying in Tulsa, USA, made his first competitive appearance
in a Stadia event since his 2017 emigration, when he finished second in the 3000m at the Arkansas Invitational, held in Fayetteville on 24th March 2018. He posted a time of 8m33.92s, finishing approximately seven seconds adrift of Peter Lynch. This is Beattie’s fourth best lifetime best for the distance, his best being the 8m28.3s, that he posted in August 2016 at Stretford in the BMC Grand Prix. CURRENT TRACK USE DUE TO ONGOING REPAIRS
The contractors have made good progress with the repairs, but apparently it will take longer than expected for the replacement materials to cure, - presumably due the relatively low temperatures, and the contractors have advised that the affected areas MUST NOT BE USED UNTIL AFTER SATURDAY 24th MARCH. This should not be too much of a problem for sprinters and hurdlers but, as the repair of the crack will stretch right across all lanes, training involving all of the track (endurance sessions or jogging) must not take place until after then. We must ask all coaches and their athletes to also make sure that people who have not got this message keep well clear of the affected areas . Any additional rectification work will be very expensive |
