Two athletes from Morpeth Harriers competed in the sixth and final North East Masters
Grand Prix Meeting, held at Jarrow’s Monkton Stadium on the evening of Monday 29th July 2019. Jason Dawson produced a new personal best of 2m19.4s in the seventh race of 800m events, and Michelle Thompson clocked 2m43.4s in the sixth run race. Dawson won the Over 45 Men’s category in the season long Grand Prix for his efforts. Three athletes from Morpeth Harriers took part in the fourth and final BMC Regional meeting,
held on the evening of Thursday 1st August 2019 at Leeds Becket University. All events were held over a 1500m distance, Phil Winkler took part in the A race and finished in 4m07.78, and Adam Pratt, who had competed at the England Athletics Championships in Manchester a few days previous, produced a new personal best of 4m02.23s, when finishing second to Wakefield’s Matt Hill in a talent filled C Race. Hill clocked 4m02.13s, and Pratt took two seconds off his previous best, which he had achieved at Chester Le Street in July. Morpeth’s other competing athlete was Rhiannon Hedley, who was fourth fastest Under 17 Woman, when she posted 4m57.77s in a mixed gender H Race. Morpeth Harrier Mhairi MacLennan finished eighth in a top-class field of seventeen athletes
in the Noble Pro Women’s 5000m, held at Milton Keynes on Saturday 27th July 2019, which was part of the annual MK Classic PB Athletics Meet. MacLennan posted a time of 16m10.23s, behind event winner Jessica Judd of Blackburn, who posted a winning time of 15m37.38s. Posting a new personal best time of 9m32.53s, Morpeth Harrier Adam Pratt finished just outside the medals in fourth place in the Men’s 3000m Steeplechase at the England Athletics Senior Championships,
held at Manchester’s Sports City over Saturday and Sunday 27th and 28th July 2019, the scene of his Northern triumph a few weeks ago. The event was won by City of Sheffield and Dearne’s Tommy Horton, who posted a time of 9m09.83s. Consolation for Pratt is that he improved on his previous figures by three seconds. Morpeth Harrier Carl Avery finished sixth in a top class 5000m event at the Challenge Track Meeting,
held at the Harvey Haddon Stadium in Nottingham on Saturday 27th July 2019. Avery, who is currently in fine form, posted an excellent new personal best time of 14m07.65s, t aking just over a second off his previous best, set Manchester’s Sports City, a year past May. |
