Three Morpeth Harriers travelled the lengthy journey to the Falklands, to take part in the annual Cape Pembroke Half Marathon on Sunday February 17th 2019, a flat mixed terrain event on tarmac, gravel, sand and peat, running from Stanley to the Cape Pembroke lighthouse, and back again. The forty runners who took part, were a mixture of International contract workers, Military personnel and Falkland Islanders. Gwenda Cavill was fastest of the Morpeth trio, finishing with a time of 1hr45mins24secs winning the £125 prize for first lady, and was 20th overall. Les Cavill was 24th with a time of 1hr47mins6secs, and Richard Sill was 26th with a time of 1hr48mins25secs. Being the leading Lady finisher, Gwenda was interviewed after the race, and the footage went out on Falkland TV a day or so later. She also had her photo in the local paper, "Penguin News." Added to all of this, Gwenda is working in Stanley for 10 weeks as the anaesthetist, and husband Les is working for Falkland Conservation counting whales. Meanwhile, Richard, who also competed here in 2018, was there for a week as the visiting consultant gynaecologist. Pictured Left to Right in front of the typical Falkland scenery
