held at Maiden Castle, near Durham, on Monday 27th July 2015.
Events held were 800m, and Morpeth Harriers had five athletes in competitive action,
and all of them achieved new personal bests, on a night that was ideal,
which although damp from the day’s downpour,
there was very little wind to hinder prospects.
In the B race, listed as the second fastest, Morpeth’s Adam Gibbs,
who just missed out for a medal in the Senior Boys 1500m
at the recent English Schools Championships at Gateshead,
finished fourth, setting new figures of 1m54.3s,
just behind fellow Under 20 athlete Karl Challand of Darlington.
Morpeth Harriers had three athletes competing in the E race,
billed as the fifth fastest, and all of them successfully dipped
under the targeted two minute barrier for the very first time,
which ultimately gave them new personal bests.
Scott Beattie, who also just missed out on an English Schools medal
in the Intermediate Boys 3000m, was the first of the three,
finishing second in 1m57.4s, closely followed home
by third placed James Young (1m57.9s).
Fourth place went to Kieran Hedley, who clocked 1m58.3s.
The fifth and last Morpeth Harriers personal best of the night,
went to Hedley’s younger sister Rhiannon,
who being undoubtedly charged by her elder brother’s efforts,
posted new figures of 2m27.1s for second place in the M race,
only just losing out by less than a second to
Heaton Harriers Under 17 star Holly Matheson.
