Whitley Bay 2k Park Run

Girl’s course record holder Holly Peck of Morpeth Harriers finished third
overall in Sunday’s Whitley Bay 2k Park Run on Sunday 25th October.

She was first girl home in a time of 7m33s, which was twelve seconds adrift of her record.

Other Morpeth Harriers in action in the event were Garrett siblings Reece and Lauren.
Reece finished tenth overall in 8m55s, which was fifteen seconds outside of his best time on the course.
Lauren however set new figures of 9m59s, when finishing 25th overall, and was ninth Girl finisher.

Park Runs Saturday 24th October 2015

The regions Park Runs on Saturday 24th October 2015
produced three first places for athletes from Morpeth Harriers.

In Newcastle’s Exhibition Park, Sam Hancox was first to finish
in a new personal best time of 16.01s for the 5k circuit,
which proved to be thirty three seconds faster that
Gateshead Harrier Conrad Franks.

A further eight seconds behind in third place
was Sunderland Harrier Sparrow Morley.

Another Hancox in fine form was Sam’s father Rob,
who was eleventh finisher in Newcastle in 17m56s.

Adam Shewry was another prominent finisher
in Newcastle, finishing 17th in 18m40s.

James Young of Morpeth Harriers clocked 17m06s at Whitley Bay.
He crossed the finish at the same time as
Blyth Running Club’s Jake Masterman,
however was given the judges verdict for first place.

Robert Balmbra was the third Morpeth Harrier
first finisher at Druridge Bay.
He clocked a finishing time of 17m42s.

Brothers Thomas and Alex Cunningham of Morpeth Harriers,
were also prominent finishers in fifth
and eleventh places respectively,
with clockings of 19m00s, and 19m47s.
Thomas’s clocking was his fastest on the 5k circuit.

Kevin Bray of Morpeth Harriers was also
a prominent finisher at Druridge.
He was 14th in 20m47s.

Away from the region in London’s Queen Elizabeth Park,
Morpeth Harriers had another first finisher in Andrew Lawrence,
who crossed the finish line in 17m28s.

Morpeth Harriers Under 13 Boys and Girls Road Championships

A total of forty two runners took part in the fourth
and final set of races in the Morpeth Harriers
Young Athletes Road Championships,
sponsored by the clubs official backer Linden Homes,
on Lancaster Park, on the evening of Monday 19th October 2015.

30 took part in the Under 13 Boys event,
with twelve contesting the Under 13 Girls race,
both run over the 1.3mile circuit.

Thomas Cunningham was first home in the Boys race,
posting a finishing time of 7m58s.
A very close race between second, third, and fourth
saw Bobby Stone (8m15s) just outpace
Ben Walker (8m16s) and Andrew Hudspith (8m16s).

Cunningham, Stone, and Walker will all receive respective
Gold, Silver and Bronze awards at the clubs
official Presentation Night at the end of November.

Holly Peck won the Girls race, posting a time of 8m19s,
and second and third places went to Lily Heaton (8m38s),
and Rhiannon Hedley (8m52s).

Peck, Heaton, and Hedley, will also receive respective
Gold, Silver, and Bronze awards at the aforementioned Presentation Night.

Morrisons Birmingham Half Marathon

Morpeth Harrier Lorna MacDonald ran the
Morrisons Birmingham Half Marathon on
Sunday 18th October 2015,
finishing 282nd in a new personal best time of 88m18s.
She was 22nd Female finisher.


Gibside Fruit Bowl Multi Terrain Race

Emma Holt of Morpeth Harriers made a winning return
to competitive action on Sunday 18th October 2015, after an enforced period of absence owing to a work related injury.
She won the Women’s race at the Gibside Fruit Bowl Multi Terrain Race, held within the picturesque grounds of the National Trust property, near Rowlands Gill.
Posting a time of 45m18s, she finished in fifteenth place,and slightly over two minutes clear of her closest rivalHazelle Webster-Costello of Jarrow & Hebburn.

Another rMorpeth Harrier  having an excellent run in the event was John Butters, who after being prominent amongst the leading group of runners in the early stages, finished fourth in 41m54s, and was first Veteran Man.
The event was won by Jordan Bell of the host club
Blackhill Bounders in a time of 40m05s,
who managed to pull clear from his club colleague
Gary Wallace, to win by fifteen seconds.

Third place went to Jarrow and Hebburn’s
Brendan McMillan, who clocked 41m07s.

440 strong field of finishers were
Kevin Bray (100th) (18th O/50 Man) 53m10s,
Mark Crosby (130th) (25th O/50 Man),
Jane Briggs (285th) (19th O/45 Woman) 65m31s,
Carol Parry (286th) (20th O/45 Woman) 65m32s,
and Sue Smith (289th) (21st O/45 Woman) 65m52s.
