It was very much dubbed the battle of the Laura's in the
Women's 1500m Final at the third day of the Sainsbury's British Athletics Track & Field Championships, held at Birmingham's Alexander Stadium on Sunday 5th July 2015. With 800m completed in 2m22.32s, it was Dundee's Muir who went to the front, and once again as she did in Oslo took the whole Field by surprise with her turn of pace, all except Morpeth's Weightman that is, as Muir continued to turn up the pace, going through the bell in 3m07.27s. Despite Muir appearing to maintain her lead, only Weightman continued to chase, however her tremendous efforts ended in vain as the Scottish athlete crossed the finish line to take the British title from her in 4m10.37s. Weightman's time for second place was 4m14.83s, with Chelmsford's Jessica Judd taking third place in 4m16.08s. Muir and Weightman will both go to the World Championships in Beijing in August, having already achieved the required qualifying standards in addition to finishing first and second respectively in this event. |
